Ready for an adventure: the essentials to pack for a summer holiday in the mountains!

The mountains of Méribel take on a whole new look as summer arrives. Whether with friends, family or as a couple, this is therefore the perfect opportunity to head to this destination and enjoy a summer break at an affordable price.

Far from the crowds often found by the seaside, the mountains offer a change of scenery that’s as refreshing as it is soothing. To make the most of Méribel and its wide range of activities, there are a few essentials you’ll need to pack for your trip. Discover the top 3 items on our checklist for a wonderful summer in the mountains!

Sun cream to protect the whole family

In summer, UV rays remain the main enemy of holidaymakers. Whether by the sea or on the coast, sun cream is rarely forgotten, as the heat is very much felt. In the mountains, however, this is not always the case. Indeed, it is not uncommon for a holiday at altitude to be accompanied by a light, cool breeze and milder temperatures.

In these conditions, many holidaymakers forget to apply sun cream to their skin, even though the risks are very high. It’s important to know that UV rays are stronger in the mountains than at the beach, as their intensity increases with altitude. If you’re planning to go hiking in the higher reaches of Méribel, sun cream is therefore essential to minimise the risks associated with the sun and its rays. If you have fair skin, choose an SPF 50+, just as you would for children.

Hiking boots to walk with confidence

In the mountains, the number one activity is, of course, hiking. There are several signposted trails suitable for beginners, making it easy to explore Méribel’s natural surroundings with young children. The more adventurous, meanwhile, won’t hesitate to set off in pursuit of the Lacs du Mont Coua or the Col de la Loze (2,304 m).

These lovely hikes absolutely must be undertaken in hiking boots suited to your route and your feet. Wearing just trainers could quickly make certain walks risky (falls, injuries, etc.) for you. Whether low-cut or high-cut, hiking boots will provide you with greater stability whilst walking.

A rucksack for carrying your belongings with ease

Sun cream, a stainless-steel water bottle, sunglasses, a packed lunch… When heading out into the mountains, there are several items you might want to take with you. To carry them more easily, it’s a good idea to take a rucksack, especially if you’re planning to spend several hours out in the countryside.

Nowadays, specialist shops stock a range of sizes. From 5-litre models for children to over 20 litres for adults, these rucksacks will ensure you have all your essentials to hand during your walk!
