Méribel is the perfect resort for off-piste enthusiasts, as it lies at the heart of the world's largest ski area: the 3 Vallées. Unsurprisingly, many skiers come to enjoy this gigantic playground throughout the season.

The powder is excellent, and the scenery breathtaking. But do you really know the main safety rules surrounding this risky sport? Check out esf Méribel's essential reminder and make sure you have the safest holiday in the mountains!

How do you prepare for an off-piste outing in Méribel?

Before rushing headlong into your next sporting challenge, it's important to maximise your safety by following 2 or 3 best practices. First of all, we advise you to keep an eye on the weather before going off-piste in Méribel or elsewhere. You can do this by consulting the avalanche risk estimation bulletin (B.E.R.A) and your favourite weather application.

Off-piste, weather conditions can radically change the course of your outing. That's why you need to pay close attention to the temperature and any bad weather (wind, snowfall, etc.).

But that's not enough, because you also need to know your surroundings well enough to know which spot to choose according to the weather forecast (is the snow stable? Is the surface icy?). That's why many people choose to be accompanied by an off-piste instructor.

The safety equipment you need for off-piste skiing!

As well as the weather, off-piste enthusiasts need to be well equipped before venturing into the mountains. To limit the risks as much as possible, it's important to set off in a group and to take reliable safety equipment with you.

As you may already know, this equipment is not limited to a ski helmet and warm clothing but also extends to safety accessories specially used for off-piste activities. These include avalanche transceivers, probes and snow shovels.

This safety package is essential, as it enables you to act in the event of an avalanche thanks to a transmitter-receiver device. Don't forget it!

Be accompanied by an off-piste instructor in Méribel

Off-piste, the dangers are always present. To make the most of your outing in the 3 Vallées, we recommend that you be accompanied by an experienced esf instructor.

The Méribel esf offers you its "Ride / Off-piste pack" program, which includes five 4 or 5 hour outings. To sign up, however, you need to be a Étoile d'Or or confirmed skier and at least 16 years old.

When you book your sessions with esf Méribel, you'll be joining a group of no more than 6 people, so you can set off on an adventure in complete safety.

The state-qualified instructor will monitor the weather conditions for you, teach you how to use the safety equipment mentioned above (avalanche transceiver, snow shovel, etc.) and help you to improve your skiing techniques, all in good fun. So, are you interested in this experience?
