The survival kit for parents at the bottom of the slopes: comfort, patience and organisation

Almost 85% of Méribel's ski area is above 1800 m altitude. The resort is therefore ideally located for all winter sports enthusiasts, who can enjoy sunny days and quality snow cover throughout the season.

Méribel has been awarded the "Famille Plus" label, making it the ideal place to discover the 3 Vallées ski area with your family. Would you like to offer your child ski lessons and watch them develop? Find out what the ESF has to say to make the most of it!

Observe your child's progress during ski lessons

Is your budding athlete taking his or her first steps on the slopes? As a parent, you may want to attend one of their lessons to encourage them and follow their progress. Although you're asked not to interfere and to let the instructor give his or her lesson, being present at the bottom of the slopes will show your support for your child, who will then be able to flourish and gain self-confidence.

Whatever the age of your apprentice skier, learning a new sport is never easy. So you need to be patient and rely on the experience of the instructor in charge of the group.

Watching from the sidelines helps the lesson run smoothly and ensures the well-being of all the participants. There's nothing to stop you debriefing with your child after the workout!

What equipment do you need to attend classes in the best possible conditions?

Whether you're staying for 30 minutes or several hours, the right clothing will keep you as comfortable as possible. While you can check the weather forecast beforehand to make sure you don't get caught out, certain items are essential in the mountains.

So make sure you have ski trousers and a jacket, as well as snow boots to protect you from the cold and damp. In very cold weather, thermal underwear is a welcome extra layer of warmth!

And don't forget to pack sun cream SPF 50: the sun's reflection off the snow can cause severe sunburn if your skin isn't protected. And don't forget to pack a drink and a snack for yourself and your child, who'll be sure to work up an appetite after all that hard work!

Book your ski lessons now with ESF Méribel

A world-famous resort, Méribel is particularly popular during the winter season, especially during the school holidays. Our ski school therefore recommends that you make your booking several weeks or months in advance to guarantee the availability of the lessons you require.

Depending on your child's age, you can choose half-day or full-day ski lessons, or snowboard lessons in the morning or at lunchtime. It's up to you to choose the package that's best suited to your child's level and pace, and then go and applaud - discreetly - their progress on the slopes of the 3 Vallées!
