With a love of skiing, a desire to pass on their knowledge and expert know-how, they help adults and children from all backgrounds to learn to ski or snowboard.

What are the requirements to become a ski instructor?

Before you can join esf Méribel as a ski instructor, you need to obtain a state diploma, issued by ENSA (École Nationale de Ski et d'Alpinisme). There are a number of tests and technical trials to assess your ability to teach board sports, and passing them is a prerequisite for passing your exam.

You will therefore need to pass and pass:

  • The technical test: This test is compulsory to gain access to the training programme. It consists of a special timed slalom, the time of which must be less than or equal to the basic time plus ;
  • The preparatory cycle (UF1): After 2 weeks' training, during which you will learn the basics of teaching, you will be assessed in 4 exams. Passing these exams will enable you to open your training booklet and start as a trainee ski instructor for class 1 and 2 students;
  • The Common Training Test (CTT) Technical Test: This is a timed giant slalom, validated with a time less than or equal to the basic time plus a bonus.

Once these tests have been passed and the various training cycles completed, the students finally obtain their long-awaited instructor's diploma!

ESF Academy: the training programme for future instructors

In order to provide you with the best possible support in preparing for the diploma, the esf has set up the ESF Academy. The aim of this skills centre is to familiarise future instructors with all the facets of the profession and to give them the best possible training for the first tests of the famous exam.

The ESF Academy in Méribel offers a complete programme for enthusiasts aged 16 and over who aspire to become ski instructors. However, there are a number of conditions to be met:

  • You must be at least Flèche d'Or or Chamois de Vermeil level;
  • Hold an FFS or ESF Club licence;
  • Have the right equipment for slalom.

Three weeks (21/12/25 to 26/12/25 ; 08/02/26 to 13/02/26 ; 01/03/26 to 06/02/26) as well as several training weekends are organised during the season so that you can join the programme whenever you want.
