Eliot Lambert has been teaching Nordic skiing in Méribel for 10 years. Nestling in the heart of the 3 Vallées, the largest ski area in the world, the resort offers a dream setting for practising this sport, which is less well known than downhill skiing but just as physical and attractive.

Take the time to appreciate the beauty of the site, ski in a group, learn the technical skills common to several skiing disciplines: Nordic skiing has many advantages. Whatever your level, discover it through the esf Méribel courses !

Nordic skiing, a team sport

Eliot was born and bred in the Vallée des Allues. So it was only natural that from a very young age he should be skiing down the slopes, which he also did at school. He then turned to Nordic skiing when he joined the ski-club.

He discovered a very different atmosphere from that of downhill skiing, with a strong emphasis on group training.

"This team spirit makes it easier to talk to other skiers and build relationships," explains the instructor, who also talks about the technical qualities that Nordic skiing offers: a great deal of independence in the legs and a great ability to balance.

Méribel, an ideal Nordic ski resort

Nordic skiing also means you can enjoy unique walks in the forest, off the beaten track. Eliot emphasises the advantage of Méribel, which has two very fine Nordic areas, at Mottaret and on the Altiport site. The latter is also renowned for biathlon, a discipline in which Eliot has excelled in the past, notably in national competitions.

Nordic skiing allows you to discover the area in a completely different way, taking the time to admire the beauty of the scenery. The best places to take full advantage of this activity?

The green loop at the Altiport for a session in the sun, and the blue loop at Mottaret for a run through the Cembros pines. Eliot also recommends a return trip to Courchevel, during which you can enjoy magnificent views over the valley.

Downhill or Nordic skiing? Why not both?

At esf Méribel, Nordic ski lessons are open to all ages. According to Eliot, it makes more sense to start Nordic skiing before Alpine skiing: "the first experience is less impressive and the equipment less traumatic for the little ones. You learn the basic techniques and, above all, you get up faster".

The Nordic kindergarten offers a fun, enclosed area in which to get off to a good start with our teams. Short races, relays, slalom, exercises in pairs: the instructors have no shortage of ideas for passing on their passion in a friendly way. Adult beginners are also happy to join in, reassured by the safe environment offered by this Nordic garden.

Can't decide between Nordic and downhill skiing? Méribel offers an exceptional setting for both. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skier, Eliot and his colleagues at esf Méribel will be happy to provide you with the right support!
