As well as ski and snowboard lessons, the ESF Méribel also seeks to pass on its values through a number of commitments. Donations to charities, a rubbish clearance operation at the end of the season... The aim of these initiatives is to protect the mountain and respect its flora and fauna, as well as raising funds for children who don't usually have access to these snow-covered landscapes.

The ESF Méribel and its initiatives: donations to associations

Every year, the ESF Méribel organises several torchlight descents for children during the school holidays. These events allow the youngest children to experience an extraordinary moment on the slopes, under the admiring eyes of their parents and many other curious spectators. Two departures are given on the evening, depending on the level of each group of children (2ᵉ Star or Flocon).

As well as offering them a magical experience in the heart of the Méribel ski resort, the torchlight descent is also there to raise funds for several French charities: 'Enfance & Montagne' and 'Petits Princes'. €2 is donated for each entry, making dreams come true for many children. In this way, participating families can enjoy an unforgettable time in the mountains, while helping to make others happier.

Culture Montagne: passing on fundamental values

Since winter 2024-25, the ESF Méribel has been incorporating the "Culture Montagne" teaching method into its ski lessons. Through this project, ESF instructors now take the time to talk about the mountains between two technical lessons. It's a new approach that goes way beyond teaching how to ski.

Biodiversity in the mountains, the water cycle, landscapes, waste linked to tourist activities... Several themes can be tackled to arouse the curiosity of apprentice skiers and make them aware of the fragility of this ecosystem. In this way, pupils can develop their knowledge of the mountain environment and gain a better understanding of all the complexity that lies behind its beautiful landscapes.

Waste clean-up operation: for a sustainable mountain

At the end of each season, the Méribel ESF joins hundreds of other French ski schools in a nationwide clean-up operation called "Dernier planté de bâton". During this event, the red jumpers and many other volunteers rally around the same objective: to collect the rubbish left near the ski lifts and elsewhere, with the help of the ski patrols. It's worth noting that several tonnes of rubbish are collected every year during this eco-citizen mobilisation: a major challenge.

After an intense ski season, this clean-up is always welcome, as it helps to combat the pollution of our mountains, while helping to preserve them before the arrival of summer and new influxes of tourists. The rubbish left behind can be recycled after careful sorting by the participants.
