Situated at an altitude of over 1,400 metres, the Méribel ski resort awaits you all winter long for some memorable descents. Whether you're more of a skier or a snowboarder, there's bound to be a slope to suit your level.

But if you're looking for something different, we particularly recommend discovering biathlon: a very popular activity at the time of the Winter Olympics. Have you always dreamed of trying out this original sporting event? Then esf Méribel is the place for you!

Biathlon: a winter sport to discover in Méribel

Biathlon is a sport that continues to arouse the curiosity of holidaymakers visiting the resort. By combining rifle shooting with Nordic skiing, biathlon allows you to work on your endurance and speed, as well as your concentration and precision. It's an all-round sport that's accessible and fun for everyone.

At professional level, there are several events in the competitions, such as the relay, the individual course and the sprint. With esf Méribel, it's all about having fun. You're here to have fun and enjoy a great experience during your holiday in the mountains.

Nordic skiing: exceptional sliding sensations

Guided by your esf instructor, you will first discover Nordic skiing (a form of cross-country skiing) and its different sliding techniques, such as skating. The reason why it feels so different from downhill skiing is that this discipline is only practised in dedicated Nordic areas (the Lake Tueda area, for example), on marked, flat or undulating runs. Downhill runs are therefore not on the programme.

In biathlon, the aim of Nordic skiing is to cover distances as quickly as possible to beat your rivals on time and try to get to the shooting range first. So it's important to know how to pick up speed, particularly through propulsion.

Rifle shooting against the clock, like the pros

The other discipline that awaits you during a biathlon course in Méribel is of course rifle shooting: a moment that participants always look forward to! With your esf ski instructor, you'll learn how to handle this weapon safely, in the most peaceful of snowy settings.

The target will first be placed 10 m from the shooting range, which is an ideal distance for beginners and children aged 7 and over. The target can be moved back as you learn, perhaps as far as 50 m, just like the professionals.

With esf Méribel, initiation to biathlon is always done in private lessons, for up to four people. These lessons take place from Monday to Friday and each session lasts around 1h30. All biathlon equipment (rifle, shooting range) is provided by the ski school, but don't forget your cross-country skis and poles.

So if you want to discover biathlon with your family or friends in Méribel, now's the time to book your introductory lessons!
